Taxpayer response to Halifax property tax hike

Author: Paige MacPherson 2019/03/22

Canadian Taxpayers Federation Atlantic Director Paige MacPherson released the following statement in response to Halifax Regional Council approving a 2.3 per cent property tax hike:

“Instead of choosing to live within their means, Halifax councillors have approved a 2.3 per cent property tax hike, choosing instead to make life more expensive for others,” said CTF Atlantic Director Paige MacPherson. “Council could have rolled back spending, and the 2018 city survey showed 53 per cent of residents wanted council to avoid tax hikes, even if it meant reducing some services to maintain others.

“Approving a tax hike on Haligonians on the Friday of March break, when people are busy with their kids, is a slap in the face to Halifax families.”
